Katharine Mary Thompson, 69, and her son, Jonathan Lee Thompson, 31, were arrested Wednesday, Nov. 22, in connection with the death of Jeremy Hall Thompson, who was found severely neglected in their apartment in April.
On April 2, emergency responders were called to the Bayvue Apartments on Fisher Ave in Woodbridge, where they discovered Jeremy unconscious on the floor, severely emaciated, and suffering from open wounds.
Paramedics rushed him to a hospital for treatment, where he was later diagnosed with sepsis.
Authorities determined Katharine, Jeremy’s mother and primary caregiver, and Jonathan, his brother who also assisted in his care, were responsible for his condition.
The former was initially charged with felony neglect, and it was later determined that the latter was living with his brother.
Despite efforts to save him, Jeremy Thompson passed away on April 15.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death as sepsis in the context of cerebral palsy and extreme neglect. The death was classified as a homicide.
Both Katharine and Jonathan were arrested on Friday and charged with felony homicide and buse & neglect of a vulnerable adult.
They are being held without bond, and their court dates are pending.
Police continue to investigate and urge anyone with information about the case to come forward.
